Height of idols cause of worry: R.P. Singh

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 29. Are the high Ganesh idols delaying the process of immersion and thereby causing inconvenience to people, the police and organisers?

All concerned should debate this, the city Police Commissioner, R.P. Singh, said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Mr. Singh felt that huge idols were taking 30 to 40 minutes for immersion at Tank Bund and Necklace Road, thus delaying the immersion process on the whole.

"Most people had witnessed that some of the huge idols could not even sink in the water because of the height," he noted.

Hussainsagar getting polluted

This was also polluting the Hussainsagar causing irreparable damage to environment, he observed.

Mr. Singh thanked citizens, media, police personnel, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, the Water Works Department and the Ganesh Utsav Samithi for helping in the peaceful conduct of the procession.

He said that details of bandobust arrangements and other measures initiated for the peaceful conduct of the festival this year were being recorded so that the festival could be organised in a better manner in coming years.
