Left `no' to monitoring panel

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, SEPT 29. In a hitch to the Government's efforts, the State Communist Party of India(CPI) and the Communist Party of India(Marxist) have decided to withdraw their party leaders from the 20-member monitoring committee (MC) announced by the Home Minister to oversee the ceasefire between the police and People's War naxalites.

In a statement here today, S. Sudhakar Reddy, secretary of the CPI, said it might not be possible for the two State council members -- C. Raghavachari and V. Ramnarasimha Rao, chosen for the MC, to do justice, as they were bound by the party's stand. In a separate statement, B. V. Raghavulu, secretary of the CPI(M), straightaway sought the withdrawal of the name of the State Secretariat member, Y. Radhakrishna Murthy, saying it was not proper for him to be in the MC, which was supposed to be a body independent of the political parties.
