KOCHI, SEPT. 30. Two persons escaped with of gold ornaments weighing 11 sovereigns, attacking a policeman who tried to stop them. The police party was following up an alert about an alarm sounded from some houses at Sreekala bylane road at Vennalakara, when they heard a scream from the house of Gilbert. The police party came across two persons coming out and tried to stop them. One of the suspects attacked the police with iron rod. Devadas, a police constable, suffered a fracture of the wrist. He was admitted to the Ernakulam Medical Centre. It was found that the burglars had forced open a safe to steal ornaments worth five sovereigns and then forcibly taken a six-sovereign gold chain from Gilbert's mother. The police are yet to get any clue about the robbers.
Abduction: three held
Three persons were arrested by Fort Kochi police for abducting a minor girl on Monday. According to the police, Ajisa (15), a student of the St. Mary's Anglo Indian Girls High School, Fort Kochi, left with Biju (26) of Chooleth Veedu, Palluruthy, and two others on Monday. After spending the day at Cherai, the group were late in returning to school and hence headed to Biju's brother's place at Ezhupunna. From there, they moved to his sister's house at Thanki near Cherthala. On not finding his daughter missing from school, Ajisa's father filed a complaint with the Fort Kochi police. The girl and the first accused were arrested from Thanki on Wednesday. The girl was released after medical examination. On further interrogation, Bobby (24) and his friend, Zincy (19), were arrested in connection with the incident.
