Maruti sales up 27 p.c.

NEW DELHI,
OCT. 1.
Maruti Udyog today reported that its total sales rose by a hefty 27 per cent in September even as the base model Maruti 800 witnessed a sharp drop of 28 per cent during the month. However, a total of 43,949 units were sold during the review month against 34,543 units sold in September 2003.
According to a company statement, sales of Maruti800 dipped 28 per cent to 9,730 units. At the same time, sales of compact cars Alto, WagonR and Zen soared 79 per cent to 21,901 units. While sales of Omni van and multi-purpose vehicle Versa posted an 8 per cent rise at 5,634 units, Baleno and Esteem sedans registered a rise of 137 per cent at 2,941 units.
Like the base model, Gypsy and sports utility vehicle Vitara sales also slipped but the drop was sharper at 65 per cent with MUL selling only 116 units.
