KANNUR, OCT. 1 . The Left parties will urge the Centre to introduce legislation to enable the State Governments to fix norms for the admission and fee structure in the self-financing professional education institutions. Addressing a press conference at Peralassery here today, the CPI (M) Polit Bureau member, Prakash Karat, said the Left parties would take up this with the Centre as there were problems relating to admission and the fee structure in the self-financing institutions in Kerala, Karnataka and other States.
Needless controversy
Welcoming the Planning Commission's decision to wind up all consultative committees, he said the decision ended "what we consider was a needless controversy." But it would have been better if the Commission had constituted the consultative bodies without including the representatives of foreign agencies. Referring to the attack on the nuns of the Missionaries of Charity in Kozhikode, Mr. Karat said the premeditated attack was a disturbing sign. The UDF Government and police had not been able to prevent such attacks.
