HYDERABAD, OCT. 1. The CPI has decided not to support the TRS candidate, T. Harish Rao, for the Siddipet Assembly byelection. Announcing this here on Friday, the CPI State secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, said the party would not support the TDP either and had advised the local unit to vote for a suitable independent candidate. It may be recalled that during the last Assembly elections, the TRS had put up candidates in the seats allotted to the CPI despite the latter's support for a Second States' Reorganisation Commission. Mr. Reddy asked the Government to immediately sanction the Rs. 42 crores due for SC and ST students' scholarship. Regarding free power, he said that the Government should provide free power only to genuinely needy farmers and demanded release of water in the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar canals.
Political school
A seven-day political school for senior cadre and leaders of the CPI was inaugurated by Mr. Reddy later in the evening at Kharmanghat near here on Friday. Lessons on Marxism, the Communist movement, political conditions in the State and the country, political strategy as well as social and economic conditions would be given to the participants.
