Anniversary Day celebrated

NEW DELHI OCT. 1. The Defence Accounts Department -- one of the oldest departments of the Government of India -- celebrated its Anniversary Day today.

The function at the Training and Convention Centre of CGDA at Brar Square in Delhi Cantonment started with a soulful music recital by the renowned classical singer Pandit Jasraj. Miss Somi Tandon, Secretary (Defence Finance), felicitated Pandit Jasraj.

A presentation was also made by management guru Shiv Khera, who delivered a talk on "Winners do not do different things -- they do things differently".

`Phool Walon Ki Sair' starts

NEW DELHI OCT. 1. The annual celebrations of "Phool Walon Ki Sair" began with a shehnai recital at the residence of Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor, B.L.Joshi, here on Thursday. An embroidered `Pankha' depicting religious and communal harmony was presented to Mr. Joshi and his wife.

The eight-day festival, organised every year by Anjuman-Saire-e-Gul-Faroshan, was originally started during the reign of Akbar and revived by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961 to promote religious harmony.

Mr. Joshi emphasised the significance of such festivals in strengthening the country.

A traditional floral `chadar' will be placed at the dargah of Khwaja Bhakhtir Kaki in Mehrauli on October 9 to mark the culmination of the festival and the following day floral offerings will be made at the Yogmayaji temple.

School Annual Day

NEW DELHI OCT. 1. The Central Reserve Police Force Public School at Rohini celebrated its Annual Day on Thursday. The Union Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, and the Director-General of CRPF, J.K.Sinha, attended the function. While Mr. Jaiswal released the school magazine "Srijan", the Principal, A.P.Maheshwari, presented the annual report.

Record dividend

NEW DELHI OCT. 1. Kendriya Bhandar (Central Government Employees' Consumer Cooperative Society Limited), the multi-State cooperative under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has declared a record dividend of 30 per cent for the year 2003-04. It recorded sales of Rs. 292.67 crores during the year.

The Chairman, S.P.Tyagi, and Managing Director, Jagdeesh Bhatia, informed the shareholders that Kendriya Bhandar is successfully operating a chain of 114 outlets across the country.

The country's largest multi-State consumer cooperative society, it has been consistently making profit for many years, an official release said.
