Seaport workers threaten agitation
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
OCT. 1.
Seaport workers will launch a nationwide agitation if the major port trusts and Dock Labour Board fail to pay them 20 per cent bonus, according to S.R. Kulkarni, president of the All- India Port and Dock Workers Federation.
In a press release, issued at the end of the meeting of the five recognised federations of port and dock workers in Chennai on Thursday, Mr. Kulkarni said the workers were entitled to 20 per cent bonus (for 2002-03 and 2003-04) as per the subsisting settlement. The settlement, signed in February 1996, was valid till it was replaced by another settlement or by an award of the industrial tribunal.
