NEW YORK, OCT. 2. The top three Asia-related issues that have emerged in the U.S. presidential election are dealing with North Korea's nuclear threat, the transfer of American jobs to cheaper locations like China and India and the Vietnam War. Afghanistan also surfaced in Thursday's debate between the President, George W. Bush, and challenger John Kerry. Mr. Bush highlighted progress there, including upcoming elections, and Mr. Kerry accused Mr. Bush of diverting his attention to Iraq instead of hunting down Osama bin Laden. On the economic front, outsourcing has become a campaign issue since Mr. Kerry began accusing Mr. Bush of encouraging the shipping of American jobs overseas. Mr. Kerry has proposed a programme of giving tax incentives and other perks to businesses that keep factories and jobs in the United States. AP
