THENI, OCT.2. The Collector, Sunil Paliwal, today advised village panchayat administrations to collect taxes properly to expedite development works. Inspecting a gram sabha meeting held at the Unjampatti panchayat here, he said even as the panchayat administration had collected Rs.53,000 as house tax, still the panchayat has collect tax arrears of Rs.2.40 lakhs. Commercial and industrial tax Rs.55,000 and water tax Rs.1.40 lakhs were yet to be collected by the panchayat administration. Proper collection of the taxes would solve financial crisis to a certain extent. Mr. Paliwal said the self-help groups should maintain sanitary complexes properly and intensify campaigns for total sanitation and construction of individual toilets. A drinking water project at an estimated cost of Rs.50 lakhs was proposed for the panchayat and habitations near it, Mr. Paliwal said. The gram sabha meet also discussed eradication of child lahbour, female infanticide, drinking water schemes and safe disposal of waste. The Collector appealed to parents send their children to schools, as education alone would bring a desired change in the life style and ensure a sustainable economic growth.
Dindigul
Gram sabha meeting was conducted in all 306 panchayats in the district and discussed rainwater harvesting structures and total sanitation and education for all.
