CHENNAI, OCT. 2. Hindi should be made an integral part of school curriculum all over the country, speakers said at the 68th annual convocation of the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha here today. Delivering the convocation address, S.P. Hiremath, former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, said the country should have adopted Hindi as the national language at the time of Independence. "Had it been done so, many of our problems would have been solved." S.P. Rajagopalan, Dean, College Development Council, Madras University, said it was not too late to make amends for what the country did not do in 1947. Making Hindi part of the curriculum did not mean neglecting other languages. He said Mahatma Gandhi was instrumental in establishing the sabha. Kaja Venkateswara Rao, chairman, sabha executive committee, traced the growth of the institution. Three thousand and fivehundred candidates received graduate degrees and 2,000 postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The Senior Hindi Pracharak Samman was given to 15 persons for propagating Hindi in the south. Four scholars of south Indian languages were also honoured.
