Prisoners urged to lead normal lives

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, Oct. 2. The in-charge Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, asserted on Saturday that prisoners could be granted remission of their sentences by the Government if they underwent reform and imbued good conduct.

Addressing the Prisoners Welfare Day celebrations in Cuddapah Central Prison, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanthi, she urged the prisoners to lead normal lives on being released. The Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, advised the prisoners to lead new lives as reformed citizens by forgetting their past. He said prisoners were being imparted vocational training to enable them to earn a livelihood after release.

The DIG (Prisons), B. Samuel Johnson, said 713 men and 24 women were presently lodged in the prison. A 10-bedded hospital was set up in the prison for treating ailing prisoners, he said.
