Harikrishna, Atul among leaders

KOCHI, OCT. 2. Kozhikode's Karthika Ramesh Chandran, Thiruvananthapuram's Harikrishna and Ernakulam's Atul Kishore were among the leaders in the high school section after the third round of the Jemo-Tech Trophy all-Kerala inter-school chess tournament, which began at the Palarivattom YMCA here on Saturday.

The two-day tournament has attracted 165 players, a record. The Kerala Olympic Association president M.M. Abdul Rehman inaugurated the tournament.

The results (third round):

High schools section: A.S. Sreejith (Chinmaya, Vaduthala, 2.5) drew with Sriram (BVM, Elamakkara, 2.5); Karthika Ramesh Chandran (Providence, Kzd, 3) bt V.S. Nikhil (SNV, North Parur, 2); Renju S. Kumar (SBOA, Chittoor 2) lost to C.P. Athira (Providence, Kzd, 3); Teenu Thomas (Choice, Tripunithura, 2) lost to Harikrishna (Sarvodaya, Tvm, 3); Kurian Parel (Choice, 2) lost to M. Mahesh (Baker Vidya Peedam, Tvm, 3); V. Jyothish (Loyola, Tvm, 3) bt George Paul (Bhavan's Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, 2); Anjana S. Krishna (Gokulam, Tvm, 2) lost to Atul Kishore (Toc-H, Vytilla, 3).

Upper primary schools section: Deen Jones Devassy (Rajasri, Aluva, 2) lost to Jithin Saji Issac (Toc-H, 3); Vishnu Prasad (Chinmaya, Kannamaly, 3) bt Christopher Jacob (Choice, 2); Amal Kumar (Kasturba, Manjumel, 2) lost to Parishith Rama Varma (Chinmaya, 3); Pranoy Anand Maxwell (KV-I, 3) bt Vignesh (MET PS, 2); V. Darshan (Loyola, Tvm, 2) lost to Aswin Varma (BAV, Kkd, 3); K.A. Arun (Amrita Vidyalayam, 2.5) drew with R. Radhika (Vidyodaya, Thevakkal, 2.5).

Lower primary schools: Nirupama (Koz, 2) lost to Vishnu Gopakumar (3); Sanjay S. Sridhar (3) bt U. Sangeetha (2); S. Ramkumar (3) bt Antony Devassia (2); Abey (2) lost to P.L. Praveen (3).
