Guest lecturers seek job protection
By Our Special Correspondent
COIMBATORE,
OCT. 3.
The Tamil Nadu Guest Lecturers' Welfare Association has appealed for service protection to its members.
This was one of the resolutions passed at a State-level meeting of the guest lecturers of Government arts colleges and Government colleges of education in Erode recently, a release said.
It pointed out there were 1,250 guest lecturers now and the system had been in vogue since 1995. They were paid on hourly basis.
They could get employment only for six months a year and their monthly income on an average was just Rs. 2,000. As new guest lecturers were recruited every year, even this job was not permanent. Most of them were beyond the age of going in for new jobs and being breadwinners, they found it difficult to run their families.
It pointed out that despite being qualified to become college lecturers, they were in no position even to get an experience certificate and there was no guarantee whether they would be able to get the same job next year.
