HYDERABAD, OCT. 3. The Andhra Pradesh Government today decided to have direct talks with naxalite leaders on October 15. The date the People's War had proposed was October 13.
The crucial "direct" talks between the top troika of the People's War and the State Government, have been scheduled for October 15. The PW's emissary,Varavara Rao, had met the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, at the Secretariat yesterday and handed over a letter indicating the willingness of the leadership to hold parleys on October 13. However, the Government later suggested October 15 in view of the Asifnagar Assembly byelection on that day and the likely victory rally to be taken out the next day. Mr. Jana Reddy said that October 15 was fixed after discussing the matter with the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The PW secretary, Ramakrishna, secretary, Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee, Sudhakar, and member, North Telangana Special Zonal Committee, Ganesh, along with the three emissaries and representatives of the Janasakthi would participate in the talks. The details of the agenda, including land-related issues, democratic rights, self-reliance, separate Telangana and ban on gutkha, would be handed over to the Home Minister by the PW emissaries on October 5. Jubilee Hall is likely to be the venue of the talks. The programme of the three PW leaders to visit Guttikondbilam in Guntur district on October 11 for unveiling the martyrs column remained unchanged, said Mr.Varavara Rao.
