KOLLAM, OCT. 3. The Maruthimala Samrakshana Samskarika Samithi has alleged that in sharp violation of stipulated terms and conditions, granite quarry contractors at the Maruthi hillock have been using jack hammers. In a statement here the general convener of the samithi, Odanavattom Vijyaprakash, said that in the permit granted by the District Collector, B. Sreenivas, the contractor has been directed not to use jack hammers. However, the contractors were using at least six jack hammers, the statement alleged. Mr. Vijayaprakash said that though complaints have been submitted to the police, no action has been initiated. The samithi members warned that if the police failed to take action, they would organise a protest march to the office of the Kottarakara Circle Inspector of Police.
