KHAMMAM, OCT. 3. Prakash Soni, Sub-Inspector (Chhattisgarh police), who was kidnapped by the People's War on September 17, was set free in the Kakarlanka forests near Bhejji, a village close to the inter-state border with Khammam in the early hours of Sunday. The naxalite group, which set a five-day deadline for the acceptance of its demand, relented as the Government of Chhattisgarh had reportedly responded positively on some issues. The Sub-Inspector, who reached the office of the Sub-divisional Police Officer at Dornapal, was taken to the district headquarters at Dantewada. The naxalite group produced him at a praja court and grilled in the presence of people recently. One of its demands was revival of weekly shandies in the villages on the inter-state border. They also wanted release of some tribals arrested in the area.
