BELGAUM, OCT. 4. Speakers at a two-day State-level conference on manuscripts, which was symbolically inaugurated by releasing a manuscript authored by the former Vice-Chancellor of Hampi University, Chandrashekhar Kambar, urged the Government to institute a Chair in the name of K.G. Kundangar in any of the universities in the State to commemorate his contribution to the field of education and manuscripts. The conference was organised by the Department of Manuscripts, Hampi University, and Sri Shivarudreshwar Arts and Science College, Sankeshwar. The president of the conference, who made the suggestion to institute the Chair, said the manuscripts documented socio-economic and cultural histories. The need of the hour was to take advantage of modern technology to preserve the manuscripts, he added. Dr. Kambar noted that education should help develop self-confidence among the youth. It should encourage creative instincts and talent among the students, he added. Referring to the regional imbalances in the State, he urged the Government to implement the recommendations of Dr. Nanjundappa Committee for Removal of Regional Imbalance. The conference was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Hampi University, B.V. Vivek Rai.
