Ganesh Kumar hits out at Balakrishna Pillai

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 4. The affairs of the Kerala Congress(B), led by the former Transport Minister, R. Balakrishna Pillai, hit a new low when his son and party general secretary, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, came out openly against some of his actions as party leader.

Mr. Ganesh Kumar, addressing a press conference, rejected Mr. Pillai's action disbanding the Pathanapuram Assembly committee of the Kerala Congress(B). He claimed that a majority of the workers in Pathanapuram were with him and did not recognise the party leader's action.

According to news reports, Mr. Pillai had disbanded the committee and installed a new one with a new president. This apparently seems to have irked his son, who represents the constituency. Mr. Ganesh Kumar has not been sharing cordial relations with his father for quite some time now and has been an open critic of some of Mr. Pillai's action as Minister and party leader. He alleged that Mr. Pillai had installed people who had no following and termed the action as "unilateral and against all democratic norms". He said that he had been silently enduring Mr. Pillai's actions and did not propose to put up with it any further.

UDF candidate

He criticised Mr. Pillai for openly campaigning against the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Adoor in the recent Lok Sabha elections. "There is nothing wrong in expressing one's opinion about a particular candidate. But once the UDF clears his name, then all are bound to accept it," he said.

Mr. Ganesh Kumar also made it clear that he would not resign as MLA and would continue to be in the UDF till the ruling coalition threw him out. In reply to a question, he said that he was not sure whether Mr. Pillai would join hands with parties, particularly the CPI(M), which had carried out a campaign of political vendetta against him.
