NHRC directive to State police
NEW DELHI,
OCT. 4.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged marriage of a minor Muslim girl who belonged to a poor family from the old city of Hyderabad to an Omani national aged 53 years, which was reported by the media on September 19.
The report said that a broker arranged the marriage. The Omani national, after spending four days in the city, took the girl to Mumbai.
He left for Oman and handed her over to the broker. The broker pushed her into the flesh trade.
Ihe report said that the victim was holding a valid passport mentioning her date of birth as December 10, 1973. The Chairperson, Justice A.S. Anand directed that a copy of the news item be sent to the State Director-General of Police, to look into the report and submit his comments within two weeks.
