NEW DELHI, OCT. 4. The Centre today informed the Election Commission that there was no violation of the Model of Code of Conduct by the Government in announcing the setting up of a new commission to go into the question of reservation for religious and linguistic minorities. Responding to the notice sent by the Commission on September 30, the Cabinet Secretary said the Union Cabinet's decision on September 29 to constitute a commission was taken much earlier in keeping with the UPA Government's policy and it was not a new scheme. Soon after the Cabinet decision, the BJP submitted a memorandum to the Commission saying that it was a blatant violation of the code of conduct for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh and a "calculated move by the United Progressive Alliance Government to woo the minorities." Acting on the complaint the Commission sought a reply from the Cabinet Secretary.
