Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, OCT. 4. The Communist Party of India-Marxist on Monday held a demonstration in front of the office of the RDO seeking immediate suspension of the Tirupati (Urban) MRO for alleged irregularities in the distribution of pattas to the landless poor in Karakambadi village under Renigunta mandal. The party's district secretary, K. Murali, alleged that out of 6,500 pattas distributed, as many as 2,000 were issued to `middlemen' and to benamis and added that hefty sums had changed hands in the `deal'. During the hour-long dharna in which several women too participated, slogans were raised against the official for neglecting genuine cases and benefiting `bogus' persons. They threatened to intensify the agitation further if immediate action was not taken against the official concerned.
