ADILABAD, OCT. 4. The district Collector, J. Sudha Rani, on Monday asked officials connected with purchase of agriculture produce to ensure that there was no involvement of middlemen in the purchase of produce.
Awareness
She said officials should strive for procurement of agriculture produce at minimum support price (MSP) of in the event of low rates prevailing in the market. At a meeting held at the agriculture market committee yard here, the Collector said welfare of farmers should be accorded top most priority.
Weighing machines
She underscored the need for creating awareness among farmers on the quality of their produce. She said even the services of Velugu project staff at the field-level could be utilised for the purpose of creating awareness among farmers. The Joint Collector, V. Durga Das, asked the market yard secretaries to extend all help to farmers who bring their produce to the yards. The Joint Director, (Vigilance) Marketing, G. Prabhakar Reddy, said as part of preparations for the purchase season ahead, moisture metres and electronic weighing machines would be purchased within the next week. The District Manager, Markfed, Devender Reddy, the Branch Manager Cotton Corporation of India, Ramachandra Rao, the Joint Director, Agriculture, Ramaiah, and the Assistant Director, Marketing, V. Srinivas, were present.
Decision on dates
The dates for commencement of purchase of paddy, soyabean, maize and cotton and other agriculture produce would be decided shortly.
