An agreement settling the long-drawn-out dispute between Italy and Yugoslavia over the Adriatic territory of Trieste was initialled in London on October 5 by the representatives of four countries. The effect of the agreement will be to partition the existing free territory of Trieste (area 285 square miles, population 272,000) between Italy and Yugoslavia.
