Black-top the road
The road was blacktopped nearly ten years ago, but there has been no maintenance or patchwork at all since. So, it is high time the authorities concerned bestowed their attention for blacktopping this road. Dr. P.K. Raman, Ooty.
Ill-conceived
The report that says "the backing of a TN-based lobby to sabotage the claim of the State for exclusive railway zone" is most ill-conceived. It was during nationalisation of railways that lobbies, perhaps powerful then, were at work and the well-established Podanur Division (then a district) was dismantled to form the Olavakode division (now known as the Palghat division). In spite of having the entire infrastructure, including a big locomotive shed, a big junction having BG and MG facilities, schools, a large number of residential staff quarters, offices and acres of vacant land, the Podanur administration was ruthlessly degraded for reasons best known to the railways. Thus the creation of a new railway division at Salem is not an additional division in Tamil Nadu but restoration of Podanur lost several years back. Dominic David, Coimbatore.
Stimulate activity
The former Union Finance Minister's observation should be an eye opener to the entrepreneurs of Coimbatore. Undoubtedly the entrepreneurs here have the skill and potential to stimulate greater economic activity. By remaining content with the earnings from low-end technology, neither will they be able to sustain for long in this current economic scenario nor will they be able to develop Coimbatore as a vibrant economic base. Hence the primary concern should be stimulation of economic activity by striving for excellence through technological diffusion and giving thrust to employment generation. A. Vinod Kumar, Coimbatore.
Complete works
Works should be completed before the onset of North East monsoon and restarted in the second week of November when the monsoon ceases. P. Somasundaram, Secretary, Tiruppur Consumer Vocie, Tirupur.
Walking track on Race Course
After heavy rain, water collects on the track forcing walkers to move to the roads, where there is continuous movement of speeding buses and cars, precipitating accidents. Hence on behalf of all the walkers, I request the Municipal Corporation to re-tar the walking track and see that water does not stagnate on the track. Captain. K. Vasudevan, Ramnagar, Coimbatore.
Not fair on women
I applaud the stand taken by Surya Moudgil. Whether the Indian Army lacks female doctors? It is not fair. Women are disrespected everywhere. It is remarkable that the AIDWA (All India Democratic Women's Association) raised its objections. B. Mekala, Kothagiri.
