Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Left has at last ensured that foreign experts will not interfere in the process of planning for the nation. The influence of the Left is the best thing that has happened to the nation's poor, but for which "reforms with a human face" will remain only on paper.
A.N. Ganapathy,
* * * Sir, So far, the Planning Commission has had its say in economic matters. Now politics is creeping into its functioning. The Left is wielding power indirectly without any responsibility. Will the CPI (M) agree to drop the letter `M' which stands for Marxist? Karl Marx was a foreigner, was he not?
R. Sundaram,
* * * Sir, Once the Left has accepted the policy of economic liberalisation in principle, what is the big achievement in forcing the exit of foreign experts inducted in an advisory capacity? The Left, which vociferously objected to the proposal, has drawn its inspiration from Marx and Engels, both foreigners. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, himself an economist and the architect of liberalisation, would certainly not have blindly accepted the suggestions put forward by the foreign experts.
T.P. Rajagopalan,
