Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Central Government's proposal to launch an austerity drive is interesting. One cannot but mention the visit of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi to the south with their family. Think of the expenses incurred on security, official ceremonies, temple visits and temple honours. Ministers, MLAs and other official dignitaries waste public money on tours and functions. They camp in their hometown almost every week with a host of officials to attend on them. The Andhra Pradesh Government is even toying with the idea of reviving the Legislative Council. Orders to observe austerity do not serve any purpose. They only result in waste of stationery.
