Mysore to host `Travel Mart' to woo tourists

The Mysore Palace will occupy centre stage during the Dasara festivities, which are emerging as a movement to boost tourism.

MYSORE, OCT. 5. Jerked out of its stupor by the stupendous mileage accruing out of Dasara, Mysore is now set to emulate and best Kerala to woo the key stake holders in tourism industry across the world through "Travel Mart."

Described as the first conference of its kind to be held in Karnataka, the Mysore Travel Mart 2004 is being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to project Mysore's potential as a preferred destination for both the domestic and international tourists.

The Union Minister of State for Tourism, Renuka Choudhary, will inaugurate the two-day national convention on October 15.

M.R. Salian, Chairman, Mysore Travel Mart 2004, said here today that the objective was to present a general overview of Mysore and the multi-faceted leisure and tourist options it held out for the visitors.

Ashok Rao, Chairman, CII, Mysore zone, said that Travel Mart would not only focus on Mysore's tourism potential but would also discuss topics such as heritage, eco-tourism, adventure sports, yoga and health, medical and ayurvedic tourism, among others. The aim of the conference was to promote Mysore as an ideal destination to be savoured throughout the year, given its pleasant climate and weather conditions. Mysore was associated with Dasara, Palace, heritage, etc., but there was more to it and the Travel Mart 2004 was bound to boost its image.

Ministers, senior Government officials, key personalities from national and international tourism organisations, experts from travel organisations, travel writers, academicians and others would participate in the conference and explore the city to get a slice of city royale's heritage, according to Mr. Salian.

To address various issues of concern on tourism and chalk out an action plan for tourism promotion, a meeting of Chief Executive Officers would be held with the Minister for Tourism.

There would also be cultural evenings and food festivals as part of Mysore Travel Mart while the delegates would be taken on a guided tour to places of interest in and around Mysore, including the Palace, Chamundi Hills and the temple, Mysore Zoo, Srirangapatana, Ranganathittu bird sanctuary and Brindavan Gardens with a dash of yoga camp, ayurvedic concepts and wildlife tourism spots around Mysore.

Profile

Exhibitors profile includes national and international tourism promotional organisations, State Government tourism departments, tour operators, travel agents, hotel chains, resorts, airlines, railways, amusement parks, credit card companies, travel-tourism and hospitality industry among others.

The visitors profile for the conference includes travel trade members from various organisations, tour operators, representatives from hotel industry, potential investors in the field of travel, leisure and hospitality, adventure tourism, corporate and business travel decision makers, senior policy makers, key Government officials, members from the print and electronic media among others.
