Investors' meet to be organised in Gulbarga

By Our Staff Correspondent

BIDAR, OCT. 5. A global investors' meet would be organised in Gulbarga to encourage entrepreneurs to set up industries in the Hyderabad Karnataka region, the Minister for Industries, P.G.R Sindhia, said here on Tuesday. Speaking to presspersons, he admitted that the lack of industries had lead to the backwardness of the area. "Other than reviving sick industries, we will also create infrastructure and invite investors to set up anchor industries here," Mr. Sindhia said.

He also justified the State Government's decision to ban the transport of sugarcane from Bidar to other States so that factories in the district got enough cane to crush in the coming year.

"We were forced to ban the transport of sugarcane as cane production in the State has come decreased this year. If farmers in the border districts sell cane to factories in other States, our factories will run out of cane," he said. Terming the Bidar bypoll as an "ideological battle,"

Mr. Sindhia said the party had decided to field a candidate against its coalition partner, the Congress, due to the need to strengthen the voice of farmers and the rural poor in Parliament.
