BCCI to contest Delhi High Court verdict
NEW DELHI,
OCT. 5.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India said before the Supreme Court today that it would challenge the Delhi High Court judgment holding that the BCCI was open to judicial review under the Constitution in discharge of its public duties and function.
This was stated by BCCI counsel K.K. Venugopal during the hearing of a writ petition filed by Zee Telefims challenging the Board's decision to cancel the tender process for the award of telecast rights for all cricket matches held in India between 2004 and 2008.
Admitting a public interest litigation petition filed in 2000 questioning the functioning of the Board involving huge public money, the Delhi High Court had said that the BCCI was open to judicial review in discharge of its public duties and that a writ could lie against it.
