BANGALORE, OCT. 5. Officers and other employees of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) went on a day's strike here today as part of a nationwide protest. They held a demonstration in front of their office on J.C. Road. The strike was called by the National Bank Officers' Association and All-India NABARD Employees' Association mainly to protest against the reported move of the bank management and the Union Government to disturb the parity with the Reserve Bank of India with regard to pay structure, superannuation benefits and other service conditions. The pay scale and service conditions have been on a par with RBI employees since 1982, the union leaders said. This had also been confirmed in various ways, including bipartite settlements. The reported move to do away with the parity was reflected recently when the pension revision effected for the RBI's retired employees was not made applicable to NABARD retirees, the union leaders said. This was despite continuous persuasion by the unions for the past nine months. Similarly, the Special Compensatory Allowance paid to RBI employees was not extended to them.
