HYDERABAD, OCT. 5. Out patient services in majority of the Government hospitals across the State was thrown out of gear on Tuesday following a strike by doctors in protest against the attack on Gandhi hospital by irate students of D.V.R engineering college yesterday. Responding to a call given by the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors Association, doctors stayed away from duties except attending to emergency cases. Functioning in the Government-run hospitals in the twin cities remained paralysed. In Vijayawada, doctors and para medical staff at the Government General hospital struck work and staged a dharna. In Cuddapah, doctors sported black badges even as medical services came to a grinding halt in all the hospitals in Adilabad district. In Kakinada, students of Rangaraya Medical College boycotted classes while their counterparts in Anantapur took out a rally and staged rasta roko at Saptagiri circle.

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on his return from Nellore today was apprised about the violent incidents by senior Health Department officials and head of the Gandhi hospital. The Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda and Hyderabad Collector, Arvind Kumar, briefed Dr. Reddy about the incident.
