ONGOLE, OCT. 5. The police made a lathicharge and fired teargas shells to disperse agitating farmers when they resorted to throwing stones at the Collector's bungalow, injuring two constables today. Several farmers were injured in the lathicharge. The 8-hour siege of the district Collectorate by the farmers ended in violence. The agitating farmers closed all the gates of the Collectorate demanding an assurance from the Government that it would release Nagarjuna Sagar water for paddy crop in zone-II from October 15. They did not allow the employees to leave the offices till 8 p.m. As women employees grew restive, the police tried to send them away through the back gate. When they saw the employees sneaking out, they threw stones. Two constables sustained bleeding injuries.
