Move on Tehelka case irks JD(U)
GULBARGA,
OCT. 5.
The State unit of the Janata Dal (U) today reacted strongly to the decision of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to wind up the Justice S.N. Phukan Commission probing the Tehelka exposé on defence deals and hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
It described the move as "political vendetta and witch hunting."
The senior vice-president of the party, Basavaraj Ingin, told presspersons here that the UPA Government "with tainted Ministers in the Cabinet" had no moral right to take such a decision aimed at harassing the leaders of the main Opposition parties.
He said that there was no valid reason for scrapping the Justice Phukan Commission, which was on the verge of completing its inquiry.
