Representations galore for YSR

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE, OCT. 5. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has received a number of representations during his two-day visit to Nellore district.

The District Panchayat Sarpanches' Association has pleaded that all mandals be declared drought-hit and wanted early release of grants generated from collection of professional tax and water tax besides registration process. It also wanted a re-survey of poorer sections under the `Velugu' programme.

PVC plant

In its representation, the Committee for Protection of Environment, has urged the Chief Minister, to scrap the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), pertaining to the proposed setting up of a PVC plant at Krishnapatnam of Muttukur mandal.

The Left parties impressed upon him the need for early completion of pending irrigation projects in the district, keeping in view the welfare of farmers. The District Rythu Sangam wanted the mandals under the Somasila Project area be provided permanent drought relief measures.

Telugu Ganga works

In a representation, the District Contractors' Association has expressed concern about the proposal to hand over works pertaining to Telugu Ganga Project (TGP), through major packages and claimed that it will benefit only major contractors. Instead it has suggested minor and sub-minor works be awarded through the old tender system at division level and through regular tenders at the circle level.

The District SC/ST Service Associations have asked for handing over of lands belonging to beneficiaries of co-operative joint farming societies, now under occupation by other communities, to the dalit farmers. It also wants early filling of backlog posts and demanded reservations in promotions and prompt release of scholarship amounts.
