14 hurt in group clash

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE, OCT.5. Violence erupted in Tatichetlaplaem village of Bogole mandal of Nellore district on Monday night resulting in injuries to at least 14 persons, with one person having been admitted to a corporate hospital.

Trouble had been brewing up in the shore village between Congress and TDP functionaries ever since the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival, following a reported deviation during the immersion event. Earlier it used to be a combined affair by both the parties. This year, Congress functionaries had arranged the event separately, triggering a wave of protests, subsequently resulting in violence. The police had posted a special picket following the incident.

This time, however, the groups went a step ahead and hurled bombs and other lethal weapons, creating a scare in the village. It was however not known why the police picket had failed to sense the mischief. Both sides lodged complaints with the police against each other. The Superintendent of Police, B. Sivadhar Reddy, visited the place on Tuesday evening and told this correspondent that the situation was normal. However, the police were taking all precautions to ensure non-recurrence of such incidents, he said.
