KOLLAM, OCT. 5. Only a lifestyle marked by hard work and sacrifice could ensure the progress of the nation, said N. Balagopal, member of the National Khadi Board and vice-chairman of the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS). Inaugurating a rural vocational training programme organised by the JSS at Edamon, near here, on Monday, he said that Gandhiji's concept of swaraj could be achieved only if the weaker sections in society gain the confidence that they too were eligible to participate and contribute in the development process. We need a training programme to suit that concept, he said. The programme was inaugurated by the president of the Thenmala grama panchayat, G. Lakshmikutty. Training would be given in soap-manufacturing, fabric painting and production of paper bags, candles and agarbhatti. More than 150 persons are attending the training camp.
