Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, OCT. 5. The inadequate supply of irrigation water for Zone-II of command area under the Nagarjuna Sagar Project Right Canal came in for sharp criticism from the MLAs at the first-ever District Review Committee meeting in Guntur on Tuesday. The DRC adopted a resolution seeking 68 tmc of water for Zone-II to enable farmers to go in for paddy crop, as it was impossible to raise irrigated dry crops at this time of year. The State Government had decided to release 40 tmc for the irrigated dry crops under Zone-II of NSP right canal. The Prattipadu, Duggirala, Repalle, Ponnuru and other MLAs grilled the irrigation department officials on their failure to take water to the tail-end areas for the past couple of decades. The Minister for Revenue took strong exception to the failure of the Agriculture Department officials in taking steps to curb spread of fake seeds and spurious pesticides.
