NEW DELHI, OCT. 5. An Advisory Board has ordered revocation of the detention of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Councillor, Asif Mohammed Khan, under the National Security Act, 1980 (NSA) saying that "there is no sufficient cause for his detention.'' Following the revocation of the detention order by the Advisory Board comprising Justice T.S. Thakur, Justice S.K. Aggarwal and Justice Vikramjit Sen, the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi ordered release of the Councillor, and the latter was set free on Monday. The Delhi Police Commissioner had on August 18 this year ordered the detention of the Councillor under Section 3(2) of the Security Act, 1980 accusing him of involvement in several criminal cases and inciting communal passions. The Lieutenant-Governor had latter approved the detention order under Section 3 (4) of the Act directing that Mr. Khan be kept in custody in Tihar Central Jail here. In his representation to the Advisory Board through his counsel Akhil Sibal assisted by A.U. Khan and Tanveer Khan, the Councillor submitted that the impugned orders had been issued, purportedly, to prevent the detenue from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
