Hockey
HYDERABAD, OCT. 5. The Hyderabad Hockey Association (HHA) officials are running from pillar to post in search of sponsorship for the India-Pakistan Test to be played here on October 10. According to senior HHA officials, the match would cost them Rs. 5 lakh, including five-star accommodation for the players. The Indian Hockey Federation will not really help the HHA financially, but the IHF has allowed the host to take 33 per cent of the advertisement revenue as its share. This may look lucrative on paper. But the fact is that no advertiser has shown any interest and so where does the revenue come from, the officials said. This is the first time the HHA is facing such a problem because the series does not have a title-sponsor. The blame for the poor response, the officials insist, squarely rests on the dismal performance of the team in the 2004 Athens Olympics. As usual, the HHA officials are looking for solace from the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh in organising the `Test' match. By all means, it was a pitiable sight to see the HHA officials run around for help at the Secretariat. Any takers?
