First win for the Eagles

LONDON, OCT. 5. Finland's Aki Riihilahti scored a goal and set up another for Johnson as Crystal Palace beat 10-man Fulham 2-0 on Monday night for the Eagles' first victory since its return to the Premier League.

The victory at Selhurst Park lifted Iain Dowie's team out of last place and above winless Norwich, another promoted side.

The Eagles now has five points and is ahead of Norwich on goal defence.

In a second-round game in the League Cup, Preston beat Leicester 3-2 in the second period of extra time. Richard Cresswell scored three goals, including the winner in the 113th minute, to earn a trip to Everton.

The results: Premier League: Crystal Palace 2 bt Fulham 0.

League Cup (second round): Leicester 2 lost to Preston 3 (game went to extra time after teams were tied 2-2 at 90 minutes). — AP
