BELLARY, OCT. 5. Around 3.06 lakh children 2.02 lakh in rural areas and 1.03 lakh in urban areas below the age of five years would be administered polio drops during the pulse-polio programme on October 10 in Bellary district. According to S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner, 1,420 booths, including 45 mobile booths, would be set up to administer the polio drops. In all 2,795 personnel and 276 supervisors will take part in the programme. After October 10, health workers would visit houses in their jurisdiction over the next three days and administer polio drops to the children who have not immunised.
Targets
The taluk-wise break up of the targets is as follows. The figures in brackets indicate the number of polio booths: Bellary rural, 46,800 (216); Bellary urban, 52,400 (235); Hospet rural, 21,600 (101); Hospet urban, 34,500 (141); Hagari Bommanahalli, 21,800 (115); Hadagali, 24,150 (119); Kudligi, 40,100 (170); Sandur, 28,700 (130); and Sirguppa, 36,400 (148). Mr. Jayaram instructed taluk health officers to ensure the success of the programme and achieve 100 percent immunisation. He asked them to coordinate with all departments and called for the cooperation of officials and voluntary organisations in making the programme a success. G.S. Shivaswamy, Chief Executive Officer of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat, H.S. Ganesh, District Health Officer, and Satyanarayan, nodal officer for the pulse polio programme, attend the preparatory meeting held here on Monday.
