The second batch of elephants arrived at the Mysore Palace premises on Tuesday to participate in the Dasara festivities.
MYSORE, OCT. 5. The second batch of elephants participating in the Dasara festivities arrived at the Mysore Palace from the jungle camps on Tuesday. They include Srirama, Revathi, and Abhimanyu from the Nagarahole National Park, and Harsha and Prashanth from the Dubare Elephant Camp. The five will join the first batch of six elephants already rehearsing for the procession under the leadership of Balarama. Arjuna, who had carried the golden howdah earlier before being packed off to the jungle camps for his "indiscipline" is at it again. He was supposed to lead the second batch in the procession but was found to be in a state of "musth" (a period of intense excitement). The elephants tend to go out of control while in a state of "musth". Hence it was decided to withdraw Arjuna from the festivities. His place has been taken by Prashanth. The majestic tusker, Arjuna, has thrown tantrums in the past and was also "accused" of trampling a mahouth in the palace courtyard in a state of rage. He was "dismissed" from the services and the honour of leading the procession went to Balarama.
