Gold Card for tourists released

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, OCT. 5. The Gold Card, a privilege card released by the Dasara Festivities Committee, for tourists arriving to watch Dasara celebrations has been made available at several hotels and government offices.

The card, priced at Rs. 5,000, has been released for the benefit of tourists, especially foreigners and for those from outside Karnataka. The cardholders will have free entry to all the cultural programmes organised as a part of the nine-day Dasara festivities.

The Dasara Deputy Special Officer and Mysore City Corporation Commissioner, A.B. Ibrahim, said that the Dasara Organising Committee had released 1,000 Gold Cards. The committee had succeeded in selling 717 Gold Cards last year that had generated revenue of Rs. 35.85 lakhs. The authorities were hoping to generate revenue between Rs. 45 lakhs and Rs. 50 lakhs by selling 1,000 Gold Cards this year, he added.

In a bid to sell these cards, he said that the committee had approached nearly 6,000 companies. Many companies had evinced interest in buying them. Mr. Ibrahim said that besides free entry to the cultural programmes, the cardholders could avail 10 to 25 per cent discount in hotels, shops, and other participating business establishments.

Regarding the seating arrangements for the Gold Card holders, he said that there were complaints of improper seating facilities extended to the cardholders last year during the Jumboo Savari. The cardholders would be provided vantage positions to watch the Jumboo Savari this year, he added.

To facilitate the easy availability of the Gold Cards, authorities have opened 11 counters for the sale of the privilege cards. The cards could be bought either by cash or demand drafts. The cards would be available at the following offices, hotels, and travel agencies: the Deputy Commissioner's office (2422302), office of the Mysore City Corporation Commissioner (2418888), office of the Secretary, Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (2482389), office of the Deputy Director, Palace Board (2434425), Hotel President (245111), Hotel Southern Star (2426426), Hotel Mayura Yatri Nivas (2425349), Hotel Sandesh De Prince (2436999), Hotel Mayura Hoysala (2425349) and Skyway Travel Agencies (2444444). The Gold Cards will also be available with Skyway Travel Agencies in Bangalore (25200001).
