Woman falls off bike, run over by milk lorry

CHENNAI, OCT. 5. At least four persons, including a woman pillion rider, died in road accidents in the city and neighbouring Chengalpattu East police district on Monday.

City Traffic Police said Sridharan, along with his wife, Soundari, and daughter, Priyadarshini, was heading home in a two-wheeler, when Soundari fell off at the 100 ft Road-Senthil Nagar Main Road junction near Tirumangalam.

A milk lorry, coming from behind ran over her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

Police said there was no light at the junction and poor road conditions forced Mr. Sridharan to brake suddenly, resulting in the accident. Both Mr. Sridharan and his child were admitted to a private hospital. Police arrested the lorry driver, Ansar.

Father, son killed

In neighbouring Chengalpattu East Police district, three persons, including a 10-year-old boy, died in road accidents.

Police said P. Sivaraman and his son, S. Dinesh Kumar of Avadi, were on their way to Periyapalayam on a motorcycle on the Tambaram-Maduravoyal bypass road. While passing through Tharappakkam village near Kundrathur around 6.30 p.m., Sivaraman hit a stationary tractor.

Both father and son died on the spot, police said. Kundrathur police are investigating.

Fatally knocked down

A tipper lorry knocked down 56-year-old V. Ezhumalai of Menambedu, Ambattur, on GNT Road at Puzhal on Monday night.

Police said Ezhumalai, riding a two-wheeler, was hit by a tipper lorry from behind near the Puzhal junction. He died on the way to hospital.

The lorry driver fled the scene, police said.
