CHENNAI, OCT. 5. Gold jewellery weighing 10 sovereigns and Rs. 20,000 in cash were stolen from the house of an MTC employee at Royapuram on Monday. According to police, thieves gained entry into the house of Vaithilingam, breaking open the lock on the back door, when the inmates were away.
Pouch missing
Deepti Donthi of Hyderabad today filed a complaint with the Government Railway Police at Central station stating that her pouch containing gold jewellery worth Rs. 20,000 was missing. Police said the complainant, who boarded the second-class air-conditioned coach of the train at Hyderabad, found the pouch missing when she woke up this morning. Police said the case would be transferred to the Hyderabad railway police for further investigation.
Thief held
Kodungaiyur police have arrested D. Lawrence (48) of Chinna Sekkadu and recovered 90 sovereigns of jewellery, silver articles worth Rs. 50,000 and a motorcycle. Police said that Lawrence, imprisoned for motorcycle theft, had broken into several houses along with Selvaraj after his release from jail. Lawrence had been detained thrice under the Goondas Act.
