ADYANADKA (PUTTUR TALUK) OCT 5. A workshop was held on "Vanilla cultivation and processing" on Tuesday at Varanashi Research Foundation (VRF) here for the benefit of vanilla growers. Varanashi Krishna Moorthy, winner of the Krishi Panditha Award, gave a lecture on the cultivation and processing of vanilla beans through slideshow. Ashwini Krishna Moorthy spoke on different stages of processing of harvested bean. Dr. Moorthy said farmers should not get distressed over crash of vanilla price and should learn to process vanilla beans. Varanashi Research Foundation would provide the processing and storage facility of cured vanilla, he said. Farmers were taken around the Varanashi Farms and shown organic way of vanilla cultivation. Mr. Rajshekhar conducted the demonstration of composting to produce quality manure. Over 80 farmers from Karnataka and Kerala participated in the programme. The foundation would conduct two more workshops on "Vanilla cultivation and processing" on November 3 and December 3 in English and Kannada respectively.
