CPI(M) wants quick probe, action against guilty
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
OCT. 5.
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today welcomed the decision of the Government to entrust the Central Bureau of Investigation with the investigation into the Tehelka tape expose and to discontinue the inquiry by a judicial commission.
In a statement here today, the Polit Bureau said the Tehelka tapes exposed corruption at high levels in the system. "Instead of taking action against those about whom prima facie evidence existed, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government embarked on a cover-up of the startling exposures. Worse, Tehelka was the subject of an official vendetta campaign. The judicial commission was asked to go into the motives for the Tehelka exposure rather than uncovering the nexus of bribery and corruption.''
Further, according to the Polit Bureau, the country expected a quick investigation and action against those guilty of corrupt practices.
