Temperature

MADURAI, OCT.5. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.2 degrees Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 117.1 feet with an inflow of 1271 cusecs and a discharge of 825 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 47.11 feet with an inflow of 689 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 3578 mcft. The Periyar dam received a rainfall of 6 mm followed by Tekkadi - 5, Shanmuganadi - 3 and Gudalur - 2 mm.

`Provide enhanced sum'

The All India Forward Bloc (Vallarasu group) has appealed to the Centre to provide enhanced financial allocation to Tamil Nadu to help the State Government carry out drought relief works on a war footing.

A resolution adopted at the State executive committee meeting held here recently, with the State youth wing secretary, Sellam, in the chair, the AIFB faction thanked the Centre for expediting the Sethusamudram project.

It urged the State Government to fill vacancies in government offices and initiate measures to reinstate road workers.

Consumers' grievance meet

The Superintending Engineer, Madurai Electricity Distribution Circle, will hold a consumer grievance day meeting at the office of the Executive Engineer (electrical), Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Samayanallur division, on October 7.

Consumers residing in the areas served by the Samayanallur division can represent their grievances.

Training programme

The Gandhi Memorial Museum will hold a month-long training programme on yogasana, pranayama, meditation and balanced diet from tomorrow.

Those above 13 years of age are eligible to join the programme. Classes will be conducted for an hour at 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Special camp

A special camp is being conducted to enrol members for the Manual Workers' Welfare Board at the Office of the Labour Inspector, Plot No. 593 Anna Nagar, Madurai - 20 and office of the Deputy Commissioner of Labour, 142/1 Lake View Road, K.K. Nagar, Madurai - 20.

Those who have already enrolled with the board can also renew their membership during the camp, which will go on till October 8, according to a release.
