Tiruchi
Air pollution Sir, Recently, I visited New Delhi. Following the Supreme Court order, all buses and autos switched over to Compressed Natural Gas system and minimised the pollution. Besides, the level of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen is displayed at all major thoroughfares. An awareness has thus been created. But in Tiruchi, autorickshaws and buses cause heavy air pollution. So, the system being followed in New Delhi should be adopted in Tiruchi also. Ansar, Tiruchi. II
Sir, I have decided not to use fireworks during the coming Deepavali. I will celebrate it as an environment-friendly festival. Since the Supreme Court has banned use of fireworks, I will not use them so that labourers can enjoy the benefit of the government holiday and save the Cauvery delta from air pollution. K. Venkatesan, Tiruchi. Bus service Sir, Buses ply on the Chathiram Bus Stand-BHEL route at a high speed and do not halt at designated stops causing anxiety to the passengers. The police and the transport officials should advise the crew to adhere to the rules and regulations. I. Kiruthika, Tiruchi. Unsafe passage Sir, An overbridge across the Tiruchi Fort Station was constructed for pedestrians to reach the W.B. Road from the Thillainagar side. But it has become a haven for urchins, beggars and anti-social elements so that it remains unused after dusk. Even those alighting from trains such as Mysore-Thanjavur and Chennai-Erode Express are forced to take the circuitous route of Maris Overbridge Road. The authorities should ensure that the passage is safe. A.V.Narayanan, Tiruchi. Stray cattle menace Sir, Of late, road accidents are increasing in Tiruchi. The stray cattle menace is a major threat to vehicle users. Stray cattle are found sitting comfortably on busy roads particularly during night hours. Such scenes can be found on the Head Post Office Road, Subramaniapuram Road and Airport Road. Will the authorities do the needful to rectify this problem? G.Rajesh Gopal, Tiruchi. Traffic congestion Sir, The traffic on the Tennur High Road, particularly at the Old Vandi Stand (Anjaneyar Temple) Junction is always congested as the road is narrow. The situation becomes acute during rainy days. Even if a constable is provided, it will be difficult to control the traffic near the A.T. Junction. The solution lies in providing signals. Or, the bus stop near the junction may be shifted to a place near the Oriental Bank of Commerce. S.Raghunathan, Tiruchi. ATM cards Sir, Nowadays, ATM cards are widely used. They are accepted at all merchant establishments. Though some cards have safety mechanism, which protects the customer from fraudulent transactions when the cards are lost or stolen, the system of entering the Personal Identification Number (PIN) at the time of transaction would be a foolproof method. The State Bank ATM cards have this safety measure. If these cards are accepted at hospitals and pharmacies also, it would save the aged from carrying cash in their pockets. C.Ramalingam, Tiruchi. Reservation Sir, On September 21, I sought two second class sleeper berths to go to Bangalore in the train 6831. I was told that only middle and upper berths were available in S5 and S6 coaches though 484 berths were vacant in other coaches. I was told that I could avail them as and when S5 and S6 coaches were fully booked. After every two days, the same story was repeated. On September 29, 400 berths were vacant including 30 upper berths in S5 and S6 coaches. I was asked to try again. Will the authorities explain how this procedure will benefit the passengers? C. Ranganathan, Tiruchi.
Tiruchi.
